The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), giving thousands of Junior Secondary School candidates across Nigeria access to their performance.
The results were approved during the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State. Representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education, school principals, and NECO management attended the meeting before the results were formally released.
According to NECO, a total of 186,291 candidates registered and participated in the 2026 BECE, which was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026 across Nigeria and selected foreign centres. Candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects.
NECO Fixes Date for BECE Re-sit Examination
The examination body also announced that candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects will have another opportunity to improve their results.
The BECE re-sit examination has been scheduled to hold on:
- Wednesday, July 22, 2026
- Thursday, July 23, 2026
NECO explained that the re-sit is strictly for candidates who need to clear deficiencies in the affected subjects before proceeding to Senior Secondary School (SSS1).
Federal Government Commends NECO
Speaking during the Award Committee meeting, the representative of the Minister of Education commended NECO for the successful conduct of the examination and the timely processing of the results.
The committee expressed satisfaction with the procedures adopted throughout the examination and result processing stages, describing the exercise as transparent and efficient.
What Candidates Should Do
Candidates who participated in the 2026 BECE are advised to check their results through their respective schools or any official channel provided by NECO.
Those eligible for the re-sit examination should complete all necessary registration and preparation before the scheduled examination dates in July.
